Understanding Your Divorce And Making a Plan

Why do you need a Divorce Plan?

Let’s face it. Divorce is not the easiest process, and it isn’t the most pleasant. Like all of life’s obstacles, there are ‘bad ways’ to tackle divorce and there are ‘better ways.’

How Much Does Divorce Cost in Canada?

According to a recent survey of Canadian Lawyers, the average cost of a traditional litigated divorce in Canada is between $16,000 & $26,000. A divorce plan is going to help you choose the ‘better way.’

Divorce and Cultural Backgrounds

Canadians hesitate to talk about divorce for all kinds of cultural reasons: religious groups are often opposed to the concept of divorce; many ethnic groups refuse to accept the reality of divorce; and, of course, there can be a measure of personal shame involved as people fathom the idea that their dream relationship must end.

But divorce happens – whether we want to talk about it or not. Liberals and conservatives divorce. Muslims, Hindus, Evangelicals, Mormons and Catholics divorce. There is not one ethnic group, or a single community that is exempt from divorce.

The Importance of Making a Plan

So despite our respective cultural norms, there is a need for you to make sense of such overwhelming and confusing times. It’s about you. It’s your life, your family, your money and your future. It is time to assume responsibility, do your homework and take control. It’s time for you to make a divorce plan.
